September 25th-30th

* Monday is Johnny Appleseed Day! We will be having a fun filled day involving lots of different apple activities including making homemade applesauce!

* Please remember to have your child read his/her take home book to you every night. Please also remember to return their homework folder with them each Friday!

Language Arts: This weeks theme is "Playing Together." We will learn how to analyze text structure, find the author's purpose, work on our fluency, and learn how to write great sentences using details.

Spelling: land, sand, fast, past, sink, wink, flip, black, very, & use.

Vocabulary Words: admire, offer, charity, challenging, & focus.

Math: We will be finishing up topic 2 this week, which focuses on addition and subtraction.

September 19th-23rd

* Take Home Books: Books will start coming home this week for the remainder of the school year. Please make sure your child reads their book to someone at home each night and that their slip gets signed off, so they are able to get a new book the next day.

Language Arts: Our theme for this week is: Pets!

* We will be working on our reading comprehension skills, reading with expression, and how to correctly use question marks and exclamation points.

Spelling: clip, flip, slip, flag, black, plan, come, & good.

Vocabulary Words: adorable, dear, needs, sensible, train.

Math: We are introducing subtraction and will be working on subtraction problems and strategies all week.

Rotations:
Mrs. Anderson: Math Camp
Mrs. Bluemel: Social Skills
Mrs. Barton: Maps
Ms. Miller: Community & Neighborhood Cultures
Ms. Potter: Personal Hygiene

* Next week is Johnny Appleseed week. We will be doing some fun activites in our classroom such as; making homemade applesauce and doing various apple activites. The homework note says to bring one apple per child (color doesn't matter) if you are able to donate more than one apple that would be great! Thank you for being such amazing parents to work with!

September 12th-16th

Language Arts: Our theme this week is Growing Up!

* We will be reading several stories about animals growing up.
* We will learn that a statement is a sentence that tells something.
* In our reading we will work on fluency and comprehension.

Spelling: pin, win, hit, sit, miss, kiss, sad, nap, be, & run.

* Each week we also learn several new vocabulary words. These are not words that they are expected to know how to spell, but we use them daily throughout the week to enforce their meaning.

Vocabulary words: change, learn, adult, imitate, practice.

* We are starting guided reading and centers for real this week! If you have signed up to volunteer I am excited to have you start being a part of our classroom. You will be greatly appreciated! (Monday-Thursday 9:45-11:00)

Math: We are continuing to learn about addition. We will learn how to count on to add, as well as learn how to record and interpret data.

* Take Home Books should start coming home next Monday. They have been able to purchase many news books and are working on getting them all organized and inventoried.

* If you would like an extra homework challenge for your child have them practice writing their ABC's (Upper & Lower Case) and their #'s as high as they can go. If they have any reversals have them practice more of that letter or number.

September 6th-9th

Language Arts: This week's theme is Ready, Set, Move!
* We are learning about characters, setting and the sequence of events in a story.
* Our high frequency words are: it, over, & too.
* We will learn about using correct punctuation in our writing.
*Spelling words: dad, sad, nap, tap, sack, back, it, & too.
Math: We are starting topic 2 in math. We will be focusing on addition this whole week!
