Language Arts: Our theme this week is Being Creative! We will be focusing on how to make and confirm predictions in our reading. Learning about how to properly use is and are, and writing descriptive sentences.

Language Arts: Our theme this week is Making Art. We will be learning about different kinds or art and artists as well as creating many art projects ourselves. We will also be doing a couple different persuasive writing projects and continue learning about past and present tense verbs.

Spelling: whip, whale, catch, match, chin, chop, like, ride, your, & from.

Sight Words: every, from, into, people, soon, & your.

Vocabularty Words: complicated, original, talented, astonishing, & continue.

Math: We are starting Topic 6. This topic focuses on place value. We will be learning a lot about tens and ones and how to count and combine them together.

Math: We are finishing up Topic 5, which focuses on addition and subtraction. This week we will be working with turn around facts and fact families. We will be having our Topic 5 math test on Friday!

Rotations: We are starting our Christmas around the world rotations. Each student will be making a scrapbook which will include everything they learn about how Christmas is celebrated in different countries.

November 7th-11th

Language Arts: This week is testing week in Treasures. We will be reviewing important concepts that we have learned over the past five weeks and will be taking our Unit 2 Treasures Assessment on Thursday.

Spelling: Every 6 weeks will be a testing week. Therefore our spelling words will be sight word review. This weeks words are: no, let, many, one, they, our, could, all, want, & some.

Math: We just finished up Topic 4. We are now starting Topic 5, which focuses on building addition and subtraction.

Rotations: There are no rotations this week due to testing.

Language Arts: Our theme for this week is "At Home" We are learning about the different kinds of homes that families and animals can live in. We will also be discussing how to visualize parts of stories and learning how to determine the plot.

Sight Words: again, could, make, one, then, three.

Vocabulary Words: company, construct, collapses, entire, material.

Math: We are continuing to work on patterns, and numbers to 20. For an extra challenge have your child write his/her numbers from 1-20 without any reversals.

Language Arts: Our theme this week is Our Neighborhood. We will be reading the story Me On The Map and making our own cool map books! Other content we are covering includes: summarizing, finding the main idea and details of a story, and plural nouns.

Vocabulary Words: amazed, frequently, service, useful, & variety.

Math: We finished up Topic 3 last week. Everyone did great on their math test! We are now starting Topic 4, which focuses on numbers to 20 and number patterns. This week we are learning about teen numbers and comparing and ordering numbers.

Language Arts: Our theme this week is Helping Out! We are learning how we can be helpful at school and when we are at home.

Spelling: Our spelling words this week are: leg, beg, men, hen, let, get, top, lot, no, & some. We will not be having a spelling test, due to the short week. Please still have your child work with these words at home for extra practice!

Math: We are finishing up Topic 3 in math. Our test will be on Wednesday! To help prepare your child for the test continue having them work with money at home. (penny, nickel, & dime)

Rotations: Due to the short week there will be no rotations. We will be doing some writing projects in our classroom instead!

October 3rd-7th

Apple Day: We celebrated Johnny Appleseed day last Monday. We had a fun filled day making applesauce, making an apple graph, weighing and measuring our apples, making hats, and doing apple tree art! I got some cute pictures of them eating their applesauce with their apple hats on that I will be putting in their end of the year scrapbooks!

Language Arts: Our theme for this week is Animal Families. This week in Treasures we are studying short O. We are working on summarizing stories. We are also learning how to find the main idea and supporting details of a story.

Spelling: We have started differentiated spelling lists based on previous assessments. For the blog I will only be posting the on grade level spelling list each week. No matter what list your child is on these are words they should all still know. The approaching and beyond lists are just tweaked a little for children's individual needs.

Spelling Words: hop, top, log, hog, hot, lot, fast, wink, our, they.

Vocabulary Words: Protect, Provide, Guide, Seperate, & Wild.

Math: We finished Topic 2 last week and started on Topic 3. This math topic focuses on telling time to the hour and half hour, knowing coin names, (penny, nickel, dime) their amounts, and being able to add up various coin amounts, as well as basic measurement skills. Please work on counting money with your child at home. It will help them greatly for this math topic!

Reading Challenge: I told the students that if they bring their take home book back to school every day (they can miss one time, being absent does not count against them) for the month of October they will recieve a certificate for a free kids meal at Brick Oven Pizza. Please help assist them in reading their take home book each night and making sure it gets into their backpack each day.

Reminder: Please also make sure that your child is returning his/her homework folder EVERY Friday with their completed homework inside.

September 25th-30th

* Monday is Johnny Appleseed Day! We will be having a fun filled day involving lots of different apple activities including making homemade applesauce!

* Please remember to have your child read his/her take home book to you every night. Please also remember to return their homework folder with them each Friday!

* Take Home Books: Books will start coming home this week for the remainder of the school year. Please make sure your child reads their book to someone at home each night and that their slip gets signed off, so they are able to get a new book the next day.

Language Arts: Our theme for this week is: Pets!

* We will be working on our reading comprehension skills, reading with expression, and how to correctly use question marks and exclamation points.

Language Arts: Our theme this week is Growing Up!

* We will be reading several stories about animals growing up.
* We will learn that a statement is a sentence that tells something.
* In our reading we will work on fluency and comprehension.

Spelling: pin, win, hit, sit, miss, kiss, sad, nap, be, & run.

* Each week we also learn several new vocabulary words. These are not words that they are expected to know how to spell, but we use them daily throughout the week to enforce their meaning.

Vocabulary words: change, learn, adult, imitate, practice.

* We are starting guided reading and centers for real this week! If you have signed up to volunteer I am excited to have you start being a part of our classroom. You will be greatly appreciated! (Monday-Thursday 9:45-11:00)

Math: We are continuing to learn about addition. We will learn how to count on to add, as well as learn how to record and interpret data.

August 29th-September 2nd

We have had a great first 2 weeks of school! Please remember that this Wednesday and Thrusday are SEP Conferences. I look forward to meeting with each of you. (Your child should come with you!)

Math: This week in math we are already wrapping up Unit 1. We will continue to work on number recognition, patterns, tallies, counting on from 5, etc. Please help your child with their math homework this week, as this will help prepare them for our math test on Friday.

Language Arts: We are done with Kindergarten review, Yay! Now on to 1st grade content. There is a theme for each week in our Reading program. This weeks theme is: What Makes You Special? Also this week we are diving right into centers (all 16 of them). It will be our first week of the real thing! Centers are usually the kids favorite part of the day so I am hoping that they enjoy starting them.

August 22nd-26th

Our 1st week of 1st grade was fantastic! I am so excited about my amazing group of kids! Here is what we are doing in our classroom this week:

* Spelling: are, my, the, see, he

* Math: We are continuing to work with numbers from 0-10. We are counting, writing, and showing groups of numbers every day. Have your child practice writing their numbers for you at home. Make sure they don't have any reversals!

* Language Arts: This will be our last week of Kindergarten review. We will continue to review the sight words that are also posted on the back of the homework folder. We are also working on writing our letters and naming their sounds.

* We start our 1st week of rotations this week. Rotations are core content such as science, social studies, art, etc. that are taught by all the 1st grade teachers. Each week the teachers rotate to all the 1st grade classrooms and teach their lesson to each class. This weeks rotations are as follows:

A New School Year!

I can't believe that a new school year is already upon us. I am so excited for a great year with your child! Please check out our classroom blog weekly in order to stay up to date on what we are doing.

Language Arts: Our theme this week focuses on Special Days in our lives.

Spelling:

Math: We are finishing up our last math unit which focuses on measurement and geometry. A take home test will come home on Thursday and our last math test of the year will be on Friday!

* There are only 8 days of school left! I can't believe how fast this year has gone. I have to say that I am actually a bit more sad than excited for summer to come because of how much I have enjoyed these kids this year. They will all be missed! :)

Language Arts: The theme for this week is "At Work" We will be learning that there are many different kinds of jobs we could have when we grow up.

Spelling: Prefixes re-, un-, and sight words. (retry, reuse, remake, unpack, unsafe, unlike, saw, cause, goes, build.)
Sentence: It is unsafe to pet a sleeping bear!

Math: This week we will be working on adding and subtracting two digit numbers. A practice math test will come home Tuesday night. We will be having our math test on Wednesday.

Rotations: We will be practicing for our 1st grade program a all week so there will be no rotations.

1st Grade Program: Your child needs to come to school with a MOSTLY yellow shirt on Thursday and Friday. We will be preforming our program for parents on Thursday at 2:30pm. We will preform it again for the school on Friday at 9:30am.

* Notices about our Sand Hollow Field Trip are coming home tonight. Please sign it and return it with your child by Friday!

April 11th-15th

Language Arts: This week we are reviewing everthing we have learned over the past 5 weeks and will be taking our Unit 5 Treasures Assessment. There will be no Spelling this week!


Math: This week in math we are working on solving addition and subtraction story problems.


Rotations: Because of Treasures testing and the Zion Field trip we will not be having rotations this week.


Zion: Our class will be going to Zion on Wednesday. Please send your child to school that day with the proper clothing for a hiking trip. It is supposed to be in the mid 60's so a jacket is reccommended.


Easter Egg Hunt: The hunt has been changed to Friday after lunch. Please send your child with a bag of eggs by Friday!


Classroom Happenings: Our butterflies have started to emerge! We will be releasing them outside sometime this week.

Language Arts: The theme this week is Watching Animals Grow! We will be learning about how baby animals change and develop as they grow older.

Math: This week in math we are learning about telling time to the hour and half-hour. Our Topic 11 Math test will be on Thursday. A take home practice test will be coming home on Wednesday night.

Thursday the 24th is Literacy night. Corn dogs and chips will be served in the gym for dinner at 5:30pm. Games will be in classrooms throughout the entire school and will be from 6:00 pm-7:30pm. Please come and join in on the fun!!!

*Caterpillars*
Today students were excited to see that they each had their own caterpillar waiting for them when they returned to school. Each student is keeping a diary of their very own caterpillar and tracking its growth over the next two weeks. Once the caterpillars become butterflies we will release them outside our school and watch them fly away!

Language Arts: Our Theme for this week is titled "What Scientists Do." We will be learning how Scientists find out about the world around them in many different ways.

Spelling: Words with -arm, -arn, -art, & sight words. (cart, barn, arm, art, yarn, harm, chart, smart, her, dirt, would, house)
Sentence: How far is the park from here?

Math: On Monday your child will come home with a practice math test. Please do it with them so they will be prepared for the actual test on Tuesday.
The test we will be taking focuses on knowing how to count different groups of coins. Please practice doing this with your child with real coins from home.

Rotations: Because we have one week before Spring Break we are doing some "Spring Fever Rotations."

February 28th-March 4th

Reminder: It is SEP week, school will be released at 1:15pm every day!

Language Arts: This weeks theme is titled "In the Sky." We will be learning about how the sky can teach us many things.

Spelling: Words with R-Controlled Vowels (her, bird, fur, fern, dirt, burn, germ, third, & review & sight words, funny, penny, fall, through.)
Sentence: The girl got hurt when she fell.

Math: This week we will be working on solving problems involving money. We will also be introducing the Quarter!

Rotations: Because it is a short week there are no rotations this week!

Dr. Seuss Week: This week is also Dr. Seuss week. On Wednesday & Thursday students are allowed to wear a hat to school. The office will be selling Cat in the Hat hats for $3.00. Friday is CRAZY day. Students are allowed to wear wacky hair and clothes!

Language Arts: This week we are taking our Unit 4 Treasures Assessment. We will be reviewing what we have learned over the past 5 weeks and will be testing Wednesday-Friday.

Math: This week in math we are learning how to count on with dimes and pennies. We will also be learning how to compare and order two-digit numbers. A practice math test will come home on Wednesday night. We will have our Topic 8 math test on Thursday!

Language Arts: This weeks theme is "Better Together" We will continue to discuss how when we work together, we can accomplish difficult things.

Spelling: Words with -ind, -ight, -y, & sight words. (find, night, by, kind, right, my, boat, no, never, should) Sentence: Can I find her kite?

January 24th-28th

On Friday we celebrated our 100th day of school! Each of us brought in 100 edible items and mixed them together in a giant bowl. We each got a cupful of our delicious 100's day mix!

Here is what we will be doing this week:

Language Arts: This weeks theme is all about Family Time. We will be discussing how families can work together to help each other.

Spelling: Words with Long e (e, ea, ee) me, feed, seat, we, keep, beak, play, rain, give, write. Sentence: We like to eat lunch!

Math: In math we are learning about fact families and adding doubles. We will also focus on adding double + 1 and double +2 facts.

January 17th-21st

Language Arts: We are starting Unit 4 in Language Arts this week. Our theme for the week focuses on Teammates.

Spelling: Words with Long a (ai, ay), and sight words.
mail, chain, rain, way, day, play, string, split, walked, eight.

Math: This week we are finishing up our Unit on Measurement and Geometry. A take home practice test will come home on Tuesday and the math test will be given on Wednesday. We will also be taking a mid-year assessment in math on Thursday.

Language Arts: This is our review week of everything we have learned in Unit 3. We will be taking our Unit 3 Language Arts assessment on Wednesday and Thursday.

Spelling: Because this is a review week in Language Arts there is not a spelling list that will be coming home this week.

Math: This week in math we are learning about capacity and weight. Math Challenge: See if your child can find different household items that resemble 3D shapes and have them tell you the shapes name.
