February 6th-10th

Language Arts: This week we are learning all about different Animal Teams. We will be focusing on retelling stories, as well as learning about contractions and adverbs.

Spelling: bumpy, puppy, funny, penny, sandy, bunny, or, & because.

Sight Words: also, blue, because, or, other, & until.

Vocabulary Words: behavior, group, plead, soar, vivid, beautiful, & danger.

Math: We will continue to learn how to add and subtract using a number line. We will also work on solving story problems. We will be testing Topic 8 next Monday.

Language Arts: Our theme this week focuses on friendship. We will be focusing on the different plots of stories as well as visualizing future events.

Vocabulary Words: approach, assist, determined, quarrel, view, meadow, & perhaps.

Math: This week we are focusing on larger addition and subtraction problems and learning about story problems.

Language Arts: Our theme this week is "Family Time." We will be focusing on asking questions about a story as we read to help build our comprehension as well as learning about characters and setting.

Spelling: me, feed, seat, we, keep, beak, give, & write.

Sight Words: about, give, pretty, says, were, & write.

Vocabulary Words: concerned, fortunate, member, share, & trust.

Math: We are wrapping up our unit on 2d & 3d shapes, capacity, and weight. We will be taking our topic test this week!

* On Monday January 23rd we are celebrating our 100th day of school. Each 1st grade classroom is dressing up as if they were 100 years old. Please also send your child to school with 100 small edible items to be part of our 100th day snack mix!

Language Arts: This week we are discussing what it means to be part of a team. We will be working on asking questions while we read and making and confirming predictions.

Spelling Words: mail, chain, play, rain, way, day, walked, & eight.

Sight Words: across, carry, eight, once, saw, upon, & walked.

Vocabulary Words: encourage, friendship, relationship, rely, & suggest.

Math: We are learning about measurement and geometry. Last week we learned about 2D and 3D shapes. This week we will continue learning about shapes and introduce using the balance scale and learning about capacity of containers.

Language Arts: Our theme this week is Being Creative! We will be focusing on how to make and confirm predictions in our reading. Learning about how to properly use is and are, and writing descriptive sentences.

Vocabulary Words: create, hobby, inspire, resourceful, & structure.

Spelling Words: hope, nose, note, rope, cute, cube, old, & new.

Math: We are continuing to learn about tens and ones and will be finishing up Topic 6 and taking our test next week.

Language Arts: Our theme this week is Making Art. We will be learning about different kinds or art and artists as well as creating many art projects ourselves. We will also be doing a couple different persuasive writing projects and continue learning about past and present tense verbs.

Spelling: whip, whale, catch, match, chin, chop, like, ride, your, & from.

Sight Words: every, from, into, people, soon, & your.

Vocabularty Words: complicated, original, talented, astonishing, & continue.

Math: We are starting Topic 6. This topic focuses on place value. We will be learning a lot about tens and ones and how to count and combine them together.

November 28th-December 2nd

Language Arts: The theme for this week is "Family Fun" We will be talking, reading, and writing about what we do for fun with our families.

Spelling: like, spike, ride, hide, bike, mine, make, came, how, & there.

Sight Words: call, funny, how, more, so, & there.

Oral Vocabulary Words: connections, possessions, relief, support, & typical.

Math: We are finishing up Topic 5, which focuses on addition and subtraction. This week we will be working with turn around facts and fact families. We will be having our Topic 5 math test on Friday!

Rotations: We are starting our Christmas around the world rotations. Each student will be making a scrapbook which will include everything they learn about how Christmas is celebrated in different countries.
