January 30th-February 3rd

Language Arts: Our theme this week focuses on friendship. We will be focusing on the different plots of stories as well as visualizing future events.

Sight Words: ball, head, never, should, & shout.

Spelling Words: find, night, by, kind, right, my, never, & should.

Vocabulary Words: approach, assist, determined, quarrel, view, meadow, & perhaps.

Math: This week we are focusing on larger addition and subtraction problems and learning about story problems.

January 17th-20th

Language Arts: Our theme this week is "Family Time." We will be focusing on asking questions about a story as we read to help build our comprehension as well as learning about characters and setting.

Spelling: me, feed, seat, we, keep, beak, give, & write.

Sight Words: about, give, pretty, says, were, & write.

Vocabulary Words: concerned, fortunate, member, share, & trust.

Math: We are wrapping up our unit on 2d & 3d shapes, capacity, and weight. We will be taking our topic test this week!

* On Monday January 23rd we are celebrating our 100th day of school. Each 1st grade classroom is dressing up as if they were 100 years old. Please also send your child to school with 100 small edible items to be part of our 100th day snack mix!

January 9th-13th

Language Arts: This week we are discussing what it means to be part of a team. We will be working on asking questions while we read and making and confirming predictions.

Spelling Words: mail, chain, play, rain, way, day, walked, & eight.

Sight Words: across, carry, eight, once, saw, upon, & walked.

Vocabulary Words: encourage, friendship, relationship, rely, & suggest.

Math: We are learning about measurement and geometry. Last week we learned about 2D and 3D shapes. This week we will continue learning about shapes and introduce using the balance scale and learning about capacity of containers.
