October 3rd-7th

Apple Day: We celebrated Johnny Appleseed day last Monday. We had a fun filled day making applesauce, making an apple graph, weighing and measuring our apples, making hats, and doing apple tree art! I got some cute pictures of them eating their applesauce with their apple hats on that I will be putting in their end of the year scrapbooks!

Language Arts: Our theme for this week is Animal Families. This week in Treasures we are studying short O. We are working on summarizing stories. We are also learning how to find the main idea and supporting details of a story.

Spelling: We have started differentiated spelling lists based on previous assessments. For the blog I will only be posting the on grade level spelling list each week. No matter what list your child is on these are words they should all still know. The approaching and beyond lists are just tweaked a little for children's individual needs.

Spelling Words: hop, top, log, hog, hot, lot, fast, wink, our, they.

Vocabulary Words: Protect, Provide, Guide, Seperate, & Wild.

Math: We finished Topic 2 last week and started on Topic 3. This math topic focuses on telling time to the hour and half hour, knowing coin names, (penny, nickel, dime) their amounts, and being able to add up various coin amounts, as well as basic measurement skills. Please work on counting money with your child at home. It will help them greatly for this math topic!

Reading Challenge: I told the students that if they bring their take home book back to school every day (they can miss one time, being absent does not count against them) for the month of October they will recieve a certificate for a free kids meal at Brick Oven Pizza. Please help assist them in reading their take home book each night and making sure it gets into their backpack each day.

Reminder: Please also make sure that your child is returning his/her homework folder EVERY Friday with their completed homework inside.
