August 29th-September 2nd

We have had a great first 2 weeks of school! Please remember that this Wednesday and Thrusday are SEP Conferences. I look forward to meeting with each of you. (Your child should come with you!)

Math: This week in math we are already wrapping up Unit 1. We will continue to work on number recognition, patterns, tallies, counting on from 5, etc. Please help your child with their math homework this week, as this will help prepare them for our math test on Friday.

Spelling Words: man, ran, can, cat, hat, mat, not, & up.

Language Arts: We are done with Kindergarten review, Yay! Now on to 1st grade content. There is a theme for each week in our Reading program. This weeks theme is: What Makes You Special? Also this week we are diving right into centers (all 16 of them). It will be our first week of the real thing! Centers are usually the kids favorite part of the day so I am hoping that they enjoy starting them.

Rotations:
Mrs. Bluemel: The Color Wheel
Mrs. Anderson: Rythm & Movement
Ms. Potter: Color Songs
Ms. Miller: Playground Safety

August 22nd-26th

Our 1st week of 1st grade was fantastic! I am so excited about my amazing group of kids! Here is what we are doing in our classroom this week:

* Spelling: are, my, the, see, he

* Math: We are continuing to work with numbers from 0-10. We are counting, writing, and showing groups of numbers every day. Have your child practice writing their numbers for you at home. Make sure they don't have any reversals!

* Language Arts: This will be our last week of Kindergarten review. We will continue to review the sight words that are also posted on the back of the homework folder. We are also working on writing our letters and naming their sounds.

* We start our 1st week of rotations this week. Rotations are core content such as science, social studies, art, etc. that are taught by all the 1st grade teachers. Each week the teachers rotate to all the 1st grade classrooms and teach their lesson to each class. This weeks rotations are as follows:

Mrs. Bluemel: Character Education
Mrs. Anderson: Rhythm & Movement
Ms. Potter: Music
Ms. Miller: Playground Rules

* Please remember to help your child with their homework each night and to return their homework folder with them to school on Friday!

Have a great week! :)
